Arbor Day at Lake Ngatu

23/06/21

WALT: Write an incredible Recount.

Arbor Day at Lake Ngatu

Yesterday my whole school went tree planting at Lake Ngatu for the awesome Arbor day.   The way we were transported from the school was by foot. On the way my best friend Millan and I were being silly to entertain each other.  Even though it doesn't take long from the school to Lake Ngatu.  My favourite part was planting the trees and the delicious hot dogs.

Once our school had made it to the lake we had to sit down on the grass for 10 minutes until Cleo and Donne stood up to do  the mihi and karakia.  After that Some of the workers who were helping us did a little Mihi.  A mihi is a speech by the way. Then we started planting and my group was Millan, my Nan, Tumme, Sophia and I.  We planted approximately 40 plants altogether. There were about 1600 plants and the plants were called manuka, kanuka and harakeke.  The process of planting is: firstly you grab the plants from the pot, you can also squeeze it if you can’t get it out. Secondly you dig the hole and make sure the plant top of the is ground level. Thirdly you place plant in the hole and cover the edges up with dirt.  It should take about three minutes.

Once all the plants were gone everyone made a magnificent line for a hot dog and I had two both with mustard and tomato sauce.  On the way back to school we made a tunnel and clapped as all the parents walked through the human tunnel.  Overall, we all had a fabulous day from start to finish.

WALT:  Find information and make inferences from the text

Make a copy and answer the following questions:

  1.  What do you need to stop holes being cut into your feet?  The spikes are so sharp they could cut your feet open.

  2. How long could it take to climb a dinosaur? At a couple hours because it actually  depends on the size.

  3. What do the words “stuff to munch” mean? To grab some things to eat.

  4. What two things happen if you look down? You would get so scared and power chuck

  5. Where is the best view? The dinosaurs head

  6. What will save you if you jump?  A parachute.

  7. Look at the last word of each line in the poem and describe the pattern. It makes a rhyme but an odd one in between the ones that rhyme.

Create

You have arrived at school riding on your dinosaur.  As your dinosaur and you are stomping around the school, what can you see?

  1.  Create:  Draw a picture of you riding your dinosaur at school.

  2. What do you see?  Include what you see in your picture. I can see a bunch of police cars fleeing including a helicopter, people running out of the school and I even see a plane trying to fly away!

  3. Tell Mrs Jujnovich when you have finished your work.

My dog Tubby

Tubby is as flabby as a massive buffalo and is as large as three giant Lego bricks stacked on each other.  My favourite part about him is he is super sporty and loves eating just like me. Oh yeah, also when I get to see mum, Nate, Nan and Tubby and he gets let inside he jumps up with paws on the couch licking from head to toe because he misses me so much.

Tubby is 3 years old in human years but in doggy years he is… Actually I am going to let you figure it out in five seconds before I tell you. Five… Four… Three… Two… One… ok if you don’t know he is 21 in doggy years.  Now that he is three years old he listens a lot better. Did you know dogs die at the age of fifteen in human years?

His favourite thing to do is go for walks in the bush, trick us by standing under the tree to make us think he is stuck and sprint around a little race track we made. Tubby is black and tan and he is a rottweiler. He also has a little scar on his nose because each time we caught a possum and it died and he would play with the possum and not let anyone have it except for him, when he was playing with the possum he started going crazy with it and the possum scratched him on the nose.

WALT: Describe my person in detail.

Success criteria

I have checked my writing for:

  • 3 similes,

  • Capital letters, full stops and commas (groups of three,)

  • Juicy sentences

  • Sentence starters.

My Dad inspires me heaps.   He has thick, curly, long, brown hair that is as long as the hair on an Ox.  Dad usually likes to wear tough, solid, brown boots and he mostly wears his dirty, neon green,  working shirt that is as dirty as a landfill that has been in the rain all day.  Dad also has shiny blue, piercing, eyes that are as blue as the ocean and he is as awesome as a superhero.  Dad is always in a happy mood and he is as playful as a puppy. My dad is a super hard working man. His favourite thing to do is go explore, any time, and in every type of weather too with me.  Dad is ultra awesome; say for example he lets me do almost everything!

My favourite memory was when Dad and I went off-roading in the dirty, muddy, brown, dirt last week by the vegetable shop.  He even bought us a  smooth, giant, white, caravan!  Dad also let me drive his truck! My dad's favourite place to go is… everywhere, except polluted areas! Dad is as loving, positive, awesome, and exciting as a new pet.  He is as hairy as a werewolf and Dad is as unpredictable as a cunning cat.  In a good way though. Lastly, my Dad is super incredible!
