WALT: Write a Narrative

Tsunami warning Friday 05/03/21

Last Friday I woke up very excited to go to school.   I don't know why maybe it is that I enjoy school so much.   Me, Sophia and Lincoln sprung out of bed and got ready for school like our feet were on fire.   Once we got to our bus stop we saw Sophia’s best friends and I started to play with Licon who is one of Sophia's best friend’s little brothers.   Finally we got to school and did our writing.   

After a few minutes Yvette announced that we needed to go to the Whare because there was a Tsunami coming.   So we took essential items only and in about 5 minutes all the classes were in the giant Whare.  Mrs. Stevenson told us to go up to the top of Mount Ngatu which is the school's  Maugna.   After a few minutes we got to our first checkpoint and had a break.   We went to the  next break area and finally we got to the highest point.  Me and Millan were playing around on the hill like there was nothing better to do.   Then after almost 4 hours we went to a gazebo.   Soon I could smell sausages with bread and sauce!   The whole school could only have one sausage each. Only the downside is there was no mustard because I love mustard so much that I would eat it raw!  

The creepy thing was that in one of the lakes a whirlpool was happening!  Me and Millan were reading books under the shaded gazebo.   Finally we got back to school and the other students got picked up by the bus or went home with their parents. When Dad picked me and Sophia up Dad got a message from the civil defense and it told us that it is safe to leave and go home.  But don’t go into the water for any further notice! 

At home we all completely forgot about it. Well… to be honest I think it was me who completely forgot about it when I was doing my homework. The next day we all certainly forgot about it.

My name is Nico, I have 4 siblings, their names are Sophia, Lincoln, Luke and Nate.   My whanau is the Bains and Coupers, my iwi is Ngati Kuri and my hapu is Te Puawai.   I live down Honeymoon Valley, Paparore Road. My friends are Hemi, Chase, Millan, Zavia, Ricky, Cri, Kingston, Asher, Sampson, Luka and Anthony.  My favorite thing is hanging out with my friends and family.

This morning

WALT: explanation writing this morning 

 

1.   Getting out of bed.

I get woken up at 6:00 in the morning because my dad comes into the room and shakes us awake.  So that's why I am always yawning in class.   Whenever we pretend to be asleep he threatens us that he will tip water all over our tiny faces.  This morning I got up to see beady little eyes staring at me in a baby cot.  It was my baby brother Luke staring at me.  So I got out of bed and got dressed into my school clothes.

2.    Breakfast 

When I got into the hallway or kitchen dad told me to get a spoon because he had some cornflakes with fruit on top ready for me.  While Luke was trying to crawl over to the humongous ranch slider.

3. Traveling to school  

Once I finished my breakfast, Luke, me and dad got out of there and hit the road.Once we got to Richards bus stop in Awanui we saw Sophia’s best friends. Finally the bus got us to school.     

 

Treaty of Waitangi

Treaty of Waitangi

1. When was the Treaty of Waitangi signed?

  6 February 1840  

2. Who was it signed between?

    The British Crown and the Maori.

3. There are two documents. How many Maori chiefs signed the Pakeha version? How many Maori chiefs signed the Maori version?

500 for the English and 40 for the Maori.

                 

4. Why was the Treaty of Waitangi written?

 To keep peace with their Cultures because everything was being wrongly taken.

5.  Where was the Treaty signed?

        In Waitangi, the bay of islands.                

6. What is the difference between a Treaty and a law? 

A law is a thing that is compulsory and a Treaty is the opposite.

7. List the Treaty’s do you have at home with your family. 

I have to make the bunk beds and get dressed.

8. Write 5 laws. 

Don't drink drive, always wear a seatbelt, you can catch 7 fish per person and it must be over 30 cm long, you have to attend school and you must not speed over the main speed limit. 

 

Camp Thank You Letters

 After camp at school we made some thank you letters for the camp.

 

Water Safety

 WALT We are learning to know the difference when there is a rip and when there isn't. We have a little way to remember it too. "If it's white it's alright" But... "If it's green it's mean"  

  

Paddle Boarding

On Wednesday my class Te Manga, Te Puawai and Te Kauru got ready to walk down to lake Ngatu. It took us ages to get there because the length was 1 point 30 k. When we got there we waited for Te Kauru then finally my teacher said we can play on the sand so everyone went running, jumping, sliding and tripping down into the shallows and started to jump into the holes. People started throwing sand balls at each other. 

There was a big hole in the corner on the left that nobody knew about. When it was my turn to go on the paddle board we went out to the deep. We started to jump off the paddle board. I swam the way back when we back on the sand Atama found the big hole. and started to dig it out... Soon we were testing how deep it was and everybody was falling over because it was that deep! Soon the teacher said to come by our bags and we did the school pattere for joe and scott.
